Best results with daily dosage
Effe Balance’s dosage calculator gives you the daily recommended dosage of Effektri Omega-3 nutritional oil. The dosage is based on the animal’s weight in kilograms, so make sure to check and fill in the current weight. Dosage instructions can also be found on the container. The different-sized Effektri containers (250ml, 500ml and 1000ml) feature a golden “120 sticker” to make your decision easier. The recommended daily dose is based on Nordic feeding culture, environmental aspects, and international studies conducted on various individuals’ blood fatty acid profiles.

People often ask us
Let’s not forget that the most important factor is absorption!
You could very well say that: “Animals are what they absorb”. This is why it’s good to make sure that the product you use is in an absorbant form, and that the body and system is able to utilize the beneficial nutrients of the omega 3 nutritional oil. We have made possible the analysis and measurement of essential omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid blood levels. Another point that is positively highlighted by pet owners is ease of use. One product for the whole family, no matter the age or breed.
Most omega-3 products contain only fish based omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA), or only plant-based omega-3 fatty acids (ALA). Effektri increases EPA and DPA fatty acids’ portion in the diet, which increases the omega-3 index in cats, dogs and horses, providing protection against inflammation-based diseases. Behind Effektri’s great absorption are the carefully selected human-grade ingredients, which combine the best sides of Arctic and Mediterranean diets. Research-based insights are the base in Effektri, where the polyphenols of extra virgin olive oil is combined with EPA and DHA fatty acids from refined and high-quality fish oil in a way which enables the animal to safely and efficiently restore and maintain a normal omega-6/-3 fatty acid balance permanently in their system. This balance is a key part of the “restoration and maintenance” of a normal omega-6/omega-3 balance, safely and efficiently. The Effektri product line also includes an analytics service (DBS test), with which you can reliably find out e.g. if additional oils are needed, and if the product used is absorbed properly.
Not when the oil is properly protected. You might have come across blog posts, publications in Finland, or animal nutritional education material, where you are advised to avoid omega-products in plastic containers. Appended is a correction research result, which only covers Effektri’s preservation in the plastic and aluminium containers we use. Food safety
Antioxidants are usually used to protect fish oil from “oxidation”, i.e. from spoiling. Oxygen, light and heat is poison for the sensitive parts of fish oil. The polyphenols of the cold-pressed virgin oil used in Effektri protect the fish oil from oxidation in the system for over 24 hours. Extra virgin olive oil has another as important mission on a cellular level. The key active ingredients in olive oil, hydroxytyrosol, squalene and oleuropein, modify the cell membrane’s fatty acid profile and displace e.g. excess arachidonic acid, thus lowering low-level inflammation risk. Effektri also contains vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant, d-alpha tocopherol, in a bioactive state. The oxidation stability of Effektri is excellent.
Virgin olive oil is a natural oil, which is extracted from fresh olives with mechanical cold pressing. Before cold pressing, the olives are pressed without heating or solvents. Virgin olive oil tastes fruity, and it naturally contains lots of bioactive polyphenols.
EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) has approved the following health claim for the bioactive polyphenols in olive oil (Commission Regulation (EU) 432/2012): “ Olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress. The claim may be used only for olive oil, containing at least 5 mg of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives (e.g. oleuropein complex and tyrosol) per 20 g of olive oil. In order to bear the claim information shall be given to the consumer that the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 20 g of olive oil.”
We advise everyone to check the omega-6/omega-3 balance of the current feeding by using the Effektri Balance test, and to simultaneously find out if the feeding contains sufficient levels of EPA and DHA fatty acids. The test measures fatty acids from full blood, which means it gives a precise profile of the fatty acid profile of the current feeding. With this profile you can calculate the relation of omega-6/omega-3 fatty acids. If the feeding is balanced, the omega-6/omega-3 fatty acid relation is smaller than 5:1 for dogs, and smaller than 8:1 for horses. If you need to normalize the animal’s omega-6/omega-3 balance, we recommend combining Effektri oil with organic food and sufficient excercise. The Effektri fatty acid profile measures and analyzes 11 different fatty acid levels in the system. ( 97,5%) Read more about the test here: DBS Test

FOOD SAFETY
Food safety is often associated with the food being safe to consume, and that there are no health risks. Unknown substances or their remains can be found in nearly every foodstuff, and might arise naturally with decay. Impurities can be e.g. biochemical substances, which might result in health issues, depending on their type. Also, the type of impurity affects the edibility of the product. For known substances, there are levels which are used to define the maximum amount for the product in question.
Our producers do regular checks to ensure that these levels are not exceeded in the products. For example, we want to make sure that the oils do not contain heavy metals, PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) or dioxin. Also, the products undergo microbiological analysis, which indicates possible harmful micro organisms.
